how to fight authoritarianism
Disinformation, repression, and geopolitical influence are spreading rapidly. Regimes like Russia, China, and Iran exploit media and control resources, trade, and social networks. They coordinate across strategic areas of vulnerability, while democracies compartmentalize foreign policy by region or issue. Furthermore, autocracies’ tools: corruption, kleptocracy and disinformation work in a system where oligarchs use Western legal/financial systems to launder money and buy influence. These tactics destabilize democracies from within, fueling far-right populism, xenophobia, structural racism, and white and male supremacy. INVISIBLE NATION shows practical and effective strategies used in Taiwan for pushing back against authoritarian influence from coalition building, and the role of civil society, and social justice, to how international alliances can support nations on the frontlines of defense against authoritarianism.

Connecting democracies globally
Democracies flourish when they work together. This event will examine how international relationships—parliamentary alliances, civic networks, and cross-border collaborations—can strengthen democratic practices. Using Taiwan’s partnerships as a focal point, participants will discuss opportunities for deeper connections between legislatures, NGOs, and grassroots movements across continents. Democracies must urgently build their own global alliances of activists, governments, businesses, and citizens, around transparency, accountability, and solidarity.

Why authoritarians fear women
Women have historically played vital roles in resisting authoritarian regimes, yet their contributions are often overlooked and undervalued. Male strongmen demand personality cults, vertical loyalty, that truth is replaced by propaganda, and independent authorities are delegitimized. Authoritarian leaders seek to control women’s autonomy to consolidate power; curtailing women’s autonomy is foundational to authoritarianism, not incidental. INVISIBLE NATION highlights how women mobilize and create community, and foster local action to defend democracy. Women-led diplomacy is one of the most important tools for peace and security.
